February 2019 Campout

Our First Campout!

Our first campout was at Camp Tuscarora from Feb 15th to Feb 17th. We stayed at site 9. Four Scouts and two Scoutmasters attended

The menu included hamburgers, french toast, tomato soup, grilled cheese sandwiches, and a delicious chocolate cake, courtesy of Mrs.Christa’s cooking expertise.

It rained for most of Saturday and the temperature dropped through the day. Luckily we had chopped wood earlier and we were able to make a nice fire to keep us warm. Everyone who attended earned Scout rank.

September 2019 Campout

During our September Campout, we went back to Camp Tuscarora. It was noticeably cooler than during summer camp, which was a relief for everyone. We stayed at site 9, where there was a dilapidated brick fireplace. We had volunteered to fix it, so early Saturday, we started mixing cement and laying bricks

Before

After six hours of brick-laying, we were bricklaying experts and the fire place was finished.

After

Though it may have not been the best masonry job ever, it looks considerably better than it did before.

August 2019 Campout

The view

August 23-25: We went on our first campout in the Appalachians. After the heat of summer camp and our June trip, the troop decided to head to a far cooler location for the August trip. We had beautiful weather and views on Friday, but that night it poured. Luckily, Mr. Sean had had the foresight to bring a canopy for us to cook under.

We had planned on a hike with scenic views, but as we were in a cloud all of Saturday and could barely see each other, that plan was nixed. Instead we went to a mid-18th century re-constructed cabin and learned about their ways of life and to the Dougton Park Visitor Center in the morning

That afternoon, we went to the Blue Ridge Music Center (http://www.blueridgemusiccenter.org/), one of only two national park sites dedicated to music. We listen to their afternoon concert before heading back to make dinner. After dinner, one of the senior scouts organized a campfire program that involved both planned and impromptu skits, songs, and jokes. On the ride back, we stopped at the Eastern Continental Divide.
